When it comes to banners, size matters. The vinyl banner printing size plays a key role in the design of your custom banner and can help your banner campaign succeed. To maximize your design, Sixstream Signs recommends customizing the size of your scrim. By choosing specific measurements for your custom vinyl banner print, you’ll be able to ensure that the text and graphics fill your sign area out proportionately. In addition, you’ll be able to rest easy knowing that your vinyl banner will be a perfect fit in your space. 

For large areas, trade shows, and events, Sixstream, provides large vinyl banners printing. Sixstream Signs produces vinyl banner printing, 63 inches in width and up to 150’ long. Bigger is not always better, but customizing your large vinyl banner size certainly is!

Finishing Hanging Vinyl Banners

To finish your hanging vinyl banners, Sixstream Signs offers complimentary grommets and hemming. The banner grommets are typically inserted along the corners and edges of your banner where needed. The grommet pierces the hemmed edge resulting in a strong contact point to hang the banner from.

Hanging Banner Grommets

Banner grommets are metal rings designed to reinforce punctured holes usually along the border of a custom vinyl banner. The metal banner grommets strengthen the sign and makes it easier for hanging. Grommets are made up of two parts which are pressed together to create a ring. Punching holes to hang a vinyl banner without the use of grommets can cause premature tearing of the scrim vinyl material. Grommets protect the banner from tearing by providing a metal ring along the edges of the holes and mechanically holding the vinyl scrim material together.

Banner Hemming

The edges of your hanging banner is folded over and hemmed together to increase the tensile strength of the vinyl banner. Hemming the edges of the banner provides your banner with a clean finished aesthetic and prevents the cut edges from fraying. Banner hemming can be completed by use of double sided tape, heat welding or traditional thread and needle.

How to Hang a Banner

Once your banner is hemmed and your grommets installed, it’s time to think about what hanging reinforcements you’ll need to feed through the grommets to successfully hang and install your custom banner. When deciding between different banner hanging supplies, remember to consider the surface your custom banner will be hanging from, and if your banner is for temporary or long term use.

Bungee cords, carabiners, also known as hanging clips and quick links, S-hooks, fence hooks, nylon rope, and polypropylene or polyester cord work great with grommeted banners. Each banner hanging accessory provides a secure temporary and long term hanging solution. 

Bungee cords

Bungee cords are great for pulling your banner tight between posts, a chain link fence, and other flat surfaces or open areas. Hanging banners secured with bungee cords are most commonly used for large outdoor displays. To avoid creasing and uneven stretching of your banner design, make sure your banner is evenly pulled from each side.

Hanging Clips

Hanging clips work well for both indoor and outdoor use, typically used on a chain link fence and other sturdy surfaces that provide holes to clip them onto. 

S-Hooks

S-hooks are “S” shaped metal hooks featuring two hook ends. One end is fed through the grommets, and the other is typically hung onto a pole, rope, and other sturdy surfaces. 

Fence Hooks

Fence hooks also feature double hooked ends, except one end is typically more narrow and squared off into a double sided 90 degree angle. The smaller end is shaped in this way to fit onto the top edge of a fence or door, leaving the more prominent hook end out for you to feed your grommets through and hang your banner. 

Nylon Rope

Nylon rope and polyester cord can be used to hang your banner with or without grommets, and be used to hang your banner in various locations. You can feed the rope or cord through your grommets to suspend from the ceiling or awning, or tie your banner to a fence and other durable surfaces. 

Screws & Traditional Fasteners

If you’re looking for a more permanent or long term hanging solution, you can simply use a drill and traditional fasteners such as screws. Drive your screws into a wall or sturdy surface through the grommet holes to secure your banner in place. If you require to display your banner on a brick wall, we recommend using a hammer drill to better penetrate through the tough mortar. 

Brick Clip Fasteners

You can also display a banner with grommets on a brick wall without the use of any drill and screws. Brick clip fasteners, also referred to as brick wall hangers and hooks are a great hanging solution. Brick clips are metal fasteners designed to be installed into the mortar lines of a brick wall. They come  with hooks on them and jagged teeth at the top end and have a spring end at the bottom. The spring end provides resistance for durability, and also provides flexibility to properly fit the size of your bricks. Place the spring end of your brick clip into the mortar and simply press the teeth end into another line of mortar to secure it into place. If you require extra pressure to secure the brick clip, a rubber or wooden mallet should do the trick. Once your brick clip is installed, you’ll be able to latch the hooks through your grommets to display your banner. Using brick clips through grommets is a more secure and long term hanging solution. 

Zap Straps & Zip-ties

For a more temporary hanging solution, zip-ties are also an option to feed through your grommets. We recommend using zip-ties only for short-term events as they are not a durable long term fastener. Make sure to confirm the specifications of your zap straps & zip-ties used.

Suction Cups

Another temporary hanging banner solution would be to feature your banner as a window display using rubber suction cups with hooks. The hook end can be fed through the grommets, and the banner can be secured into place onto the window with the suction end. Before placing the suction cups onto the window, we recommend adding a small drop of water onto the inside of each suction cup end. A little moisture on the suction cups will provide extra grip to easily adhere the banner onto the window.  

Pole Pockets

Pole pockets are made when the edge of a banner is folded on itself and sewn together to create a narrow open pocket for a pole, nylon rope, polyester cord and other material to be fed through for hanging. 

Sixstream Signs offers complimentary pole pocket hemming, with your choice of one or more pockets installed.

Banners with pole pockets are commonly hung with various rope or cord from a single pole pocket located at the top edge of a banner. Pole pockets are also commonly installed on either side of a banner to slip poles through to secure the banner into the ground.

Our Countertop Acrylic Plexiglass Barriers and Self Standing Barriers are quick and easy to assemble. Depending on the configuration of your barrier, they may be pre-assembled as a single piece, which simply requires placement, or, if your barrier is made in parts, a quick installation will be required. 

If your barrier is made in parts, typically, your order will come in 3 parts: the plastic barrier itself, supporting frame, and supporting legs. The clear plastic slides into the frame and the supporting legs attach to the frame.

Depending on the placement and usage, once your Countertop Acrylic Plexiglass Barriers and Self-Standing Barriers are assembled, they can easily be moved into place and utilized in various areas. 

To ensure your barriers stay in place, some clients have used weights to steady their barriers when used outdoors in windy areas, or have secured barriers in place by attaching fasteners to surrounding support structures. Barriers can also be suspended using chains, cable or wire. 

In applications where goods, documents or payment needs to be passed through, simply hang and secure the Hanging Acrylic Plexiglass Barrier a few inches above the counter.

How to Hang a vinyl Banner Without Grommets and Pole Pockets

If you wish to forgo grommets and pole pockets after your banner has been printed, there are some temporary banner hanging solutions you can choose from:

Velcro Adhesive Strips

Velcro adhesive strips come in pairs and are double sided, designed to secure your banner in place from its backside. One side of the velcro strip is an adhesive that can be stuck onto a flat surface, and the other end of the strip is your velcro that latches onto it’s connecting counterpart that can be secured on the backside of your banner. Velcro strips are great for hanging your banner indoors when they can be applied to flat surfaces like a wall and the edge of a display table. They’re good for temporary use, and can be a convenient hanging solution if you require to continually swap your banner out for another.

Banner Clips

Banner clips, similar to heavy duty office clips and the large kitchen clips you use to secure bags of food, can be a good temporary solution to hang your banner. Banner clips have a rubber grip clip end that attaches onto the edges of a banner, and rope or string can be used to feed through the holes on the tops of the clips for an easy hanging solution. 

Magnets

If you have a surface that is magnetized, strong magnets can be a good temporary solution to hang your banner without using grommets and pole pockets. 

Makeshift Hanging Solutions

When it comes to using double sided tape, pins, tacks, glues, and other adhesives, we advise against it as these types of makeshift hanging solutions can permanently damage your banner. If your banner is intended for a quick one time use, then these solutions may be an option.

Scrim banners are the most commonly used for commercial wide format print. Because of its highly durable qualities, scrim and vinyl banners are an excellent choice for outdoor use, and all weather conditions.

Hanging Banners are all printed locally at our sign shop in Surrey, BC. Sixstream Signs uses the latest Latex Printing technology, which prevents your banner prints from fading or smudging. Latex ink is scratch and rub resistant, waterproof, and in many cases, even chemical resistant. This means that your banner does not require lamination to keep its condition. All banners are inspected to meet quality standards before they leave our sign shop floor. 

Latex printing is not only high functioning, but high speed. The printing process is almost immediate, and unlike other printer ink, latex ink requires zero dry time. So once your banner design has been submitted, we can print and deliver your banner relatively quick. Banners are a great marketing tool for last minute promotions and sales.

Latex ink is also an environmentally conscious formula, made up of approximately 70% water, making it extremely versatile and safe to use in any environment, both indoors and outdoors.

Vinyl Scrim Hanging Banner Maintenance & Storage

Now that you have an amazing looking vinyl scrim banner, let’s make sure it stays that way! 

When cleaning your banner and the area around it, make sure to wipe them down with a soft nonabrasive rag to remove any dirt, then allow it to dry naturally. Banners can be cleaned with a simple soap and water solution. Avoid any harsh cleaning products that contain ammonia, which may wear down the appearance of your banner. Make sure to protect your hands by wearing gloves when cleaning and taking down your banner as necessary. 

How to Store Vinyl Banners

When it comes time to store your banner until the next occasion, we recommend placing it back in its original packaging, as it’s an easy and great way to protect your banner for future use. Start by rolling the banner with the ink side facing in to avoid ink on ink contact, as the ink will start to transfer overtime and cause smudging, especially in warmer weather. If your banner came with a sheet of protective non-stick paper, make sure to save that as well, and place it over the print side before rolling as an added layer of protection to your banner design. Once your banner is rolled up, place it back in its original packaging. For best results, store your rolled banners in a cool, dry area, away from excessive heat, cold and moisture, and always store the box in an upright vertical position to avoid creasing.
