Partition Materials: What Are the Sneeze Guards and Barriers Made Of?

Plexiglass Acrylic sheets has been the predominant material used for transparent plexiglass barriers, acrylic sneeze guards and plexiglass partitions. Depending on your partition application, other clear plastic sheets can also be used. The other materials you might find being used for barriers are clear polycarbonate sheets, lexan sheets and PETG Sheets. Visually, acrylic plexiglass sheets, polycarbonate sheets, lexan sheets and PETG sheets have similar optically clear properties, good durability and can be manufactured to fit various barrier applications and protective configurations. Acrylic Sheets (Plexiglass)

Acrylic sheets also commonly known as plexiglass when compared to the other materials it has be best value for its cost. Plexiglass acrylic sheets come in standard 4x8 sheet sizes and can be cut to sizes to create partitions.

Polycarbonate Sheets (Lexan)

Polycarbonate is commonly referred by its trade name Lexan and available by a variety of manufactures. Clear polycarbonate is very similar to clear acrylic with the added benefit of being impact resistant and unbreakable. This added property comes at a cost of course, polycarbonate is generally more expensive than plexiglass. Make sure if you are getting barriers made from polycarbonate to be used out doors that it has a uv protective coating. Unlike plexiglass without the coating polycarbonate can yellow when exposed to sunlight.

PETG Plastic

PETG Plastic is a clear plastic similar to plexiglass but not designed to be used outdoors. Chemically its considered softer and can be cold formed and scratches easier. This means that PETG can be bent without the use of heat. Unless completely necessarily, Plexiglass acrylic is a better product for sneeze guards and barriers than PETG.

Opaque Plastics and Other Materials

In applications where privacy and separation is required and clear sheets do not work. Barriers and partitions can be made out of opaque plastics and other materials in place of acrylic.

Plexiglass Partition & Acrylic Sneeze Guard Installation and Assembly

Our Countertop Acrylic Plexiglass Partition and Self Standing Barriers are quick and easy to assemble. Depending on the configuration of your barrier, they may be pre-assembled as a single piece, which simply requires placement, or, if your barrier is made in parts, a quick installation will be required. 

If your barrier is made in parts, typically, your order will come in 3 parts: the plastic barrier itself, supporting frame, and supporting legs. The clear plastic slides into the frame and the supporting legs attach to the frame.

Depending on the placement and usage, once your Countertop Acrylic Plexiglass Partition and Self-Standing Barriers are assembled, they can easily be moved into place and utilized in various areas. 

To ensure your barriers stay in place, some clients have used weights to steady their barriers when used outdoors in windy areas, or have secured barriers in place by attaching fasteners to surrounding support structures. Barriers can also be suspended using chains, cable or wire. 

In applications where goods, documents or payment needs to be passed through, simply hang and secure the Hanging Acrylic Plexiglass Barrier a few inches above the counter.
