EPVC stands for Expanded Polyvinyl Chloride , more commonly known by its trade names as Sintra, komacel or simply, Expanded PVC Sheets and EPVC for short. Sintra signs are popular as they provide a smooth face to print on or mount graphics to. EPVC signs are relatively easy to work with and have good long turn durability. This rigid sign substrate has developed a reputation for its durability and versatility and become a popular option for digitally printed wide forma signage.
How does Sintra signs compare to the Foam Board signs?
When it comes to wide format commercial printing, EPVC is commonly compared to Foam Board due to their foam based structures. Although made from foam, the properties of the two sign materials are actually quite different from one another.
Sign professionals would consider EPVC much more dense and solid when comparing Foam Board to Expanded PVC Sheets. Expanded PVC has a much more solid core and doesn’t require lamination of it’s paper exterior to retain and hold its shape. When EPVC Sheets are punctured or dented, it doesn’t lose its structural integrity unlike Foam Board. When expanded, polyvinyl chloride stiffens up into a highly rigid material that can maintain its own shape. Due to it’s durable nature, Expanded PVC Sheets are actually more comparable and similar to plywood than to Foam Board.
